It is placement of sperms into a female ovarian follicles, uterus, cervix or fallopian tubes using man made way rather than use of natural copulation. It is a medical alternative to sexual intercourse in a bid for fertilization. It is commonly for breeding dairy cattle and pigs. The artificial insemination process employs reproductive technology, donated sperms or animal husbandry techniques.

It involves attaining of pregnancy without sexual intercourse. Couples facing problem of getting a pregnancy can uphold this method since it results to mature fertilization similar to natural one. In some instances, the immune system of a woman may reject the sperm. In case two women want to parent a child can also use this approach to become a parent or a single woman who does not want to have a child from sexual intercourse.

A woman wanting to undergo this procedure should prepare well. The first step is to find a man who will carry out the sperm donation. Sperm donations may not work out especially in cases where the man produces few motile sperms. Genetic disorders may also make it hard for a man to donate sperms. Technology has made it possible for couples in log distance relationships to have children, . This includes those who are in the armed forces.

There are various methods which can be used to collect sperms. Electrical stimulator and masturbation are some of them. A special condom is then used to collect the sperms for donation. Once the sperms have been collected, they are inserted into the cervix of a woman. A woman can also get sperms from a sperm bank.

Sperms kept in a bank are frozen and quarantined for a long period using special liquids and chemicals that support life. Male partner should avoid ejaculation for a period of two to three days before collection of sample in order to improve sperm count. Experts observe menstrual period from a lady by tracking blood test and basal body temperature.

When using intrauterine method, sperms must be washed thoroughly in laboratory to remove mucus and non-motile sperm in the semen. Sperms from bank are kept for a period of six months where donor is tested before and after donation to ascertain whether he has transmissible diseases.

If private person donate sperm directly or indirectly they are supplied fresh and is not frozen or quarantined. It may be introduced to a woman directly or to her partner. It can also be transported in special containers that preserve life. It is produced through masturbation or use special condom for collection.

After releasing ovary, semen provided by male partner is introduced into the uterus. It may be fresh or frozen depending on the circumstance. Sperm from bank is always frozen while the one directly collected is introduced while it is fresh. Semen is introduced in the fallopian tubes using needless syringe in order to avoid uterus damage. This completes the artificial insemination procedure.
