Choosing The Right Abortion Technique

By Mark Wondsner

There are different kinds of techniques that are used by the doctors to get rid of or eliminate pregnancy. Induced abortion techniques are used using chemical or surgical methods. It is very likely dependant on the stage of pregnancy the female is going through, which decides the type of abortion technique that shall be suitable for her, whether it is initial weeks, first trimester and second trimester or on the preference of the female.

Before you understand the problems, it becomes important for you to understand what is abortion? Abortion is a technique that is used to deal with unwanted pregnancy. Now, there are different methods of abortions available to choose from, but it depends strictly on the availability of the health care facilities, social and economic status and the gestation period of the lady and also the overall health of the patient of course.

As far as the medical community is concerned there are different conclusions that come up with abortion. The natural abortion or otherwise known as the spontaneous abortion is referred to the miscarriage that female suffer with, which is caused due to trauma or shock that inadvertently affects the foetus, this automatically forces the body to expel the pregnancy. The spontaneous abortion is also found if the foetus has genetic infection or other diseases.

Moreover, it is also found in cases where the abortion is performed prior to this stage, it becomes fatal for the mother and might lead to critical complications. As we learn about different methods that are used for abortion it becomes important to be well informed that the methods are divided into two categories, the medical method and surgical method.

Next the use of a syringe for the removal of the embryonic tissue with the help of suction by the doctor itself is considered as the Manual vacuum aspiration. Lastly, we have the electric vacuum aspiration, which makes use of electric pump instead of a syringe and follows the same process as MVA.

Surgical method is one of the popular elective abortion techniques, however, this process can be used depending on the stage of pregnancy the female is i.e. the first trimester. Here the manual vacuum aspiration, electric aspiration or the dilation and curettage can be performed to eliminate the pregnancy.

If the female is going through the second trimester stage then it is preferred to use the dilation and evacuation method. It is also found that induced abortions techniques are also used during the second trimester stage by using drugs that are injected in the amniotic fluid or hysterectomy abortions are performed. You also have the option of choosing for the chemical abortion and this option can be discussed with the doctor to eliminate pregnancy, drugs such as methotrexate and mifepristone are used for drug abortion.

Another surgical method used for this is the aspiration technique, which includes vacuum aspiration, suction aspiration and dilation or aspiration. It is found that if the female is in the later days of the second trimester of her pregnancy, in such cases gynaecologists are known to opt for dilation and evacuation. As a women looks to get aborted, it becomes very important for her to get it done by 24th week, because doing it after that can be problematic for the female.
